Can you figure out where the telemetry system is in a car and which type? Can you analyze CAN/FlexRay/Ethernet traffic? Do you know which vehicles are using QNX in their infotainment systems? Which are using which types of gateways? Can you detect these gateways between several different buses? Can you design new electric and electronic circuits to interface with CAN, FlexRay and others? Do you sleep with your SDR and oscilloscope? If you do, and you want to learn and develop new advanced tricks related to vehicle security and shape the security of the new vehicles and technologies, including autonomous driving, this is your opportunity.
Your work will involve working in a multi-disciplinary team and helping find different vulnerabilities and problems with the hardware and software of the different vehicles in the market, as well collaborating in finding countermeasures.


Your core tasks will involve, but are not limited to:

• Identifying the different technologies used in a particular vehicle and providing ways to interact with them.
• Gathering available information about different implementations of different technologies and the vehicles affected.
• Designing and building new electric and electronic circuits to interface with the different vehicle electronics, including its communications.
• Reverse-engineering different HW architectures (x86, ARM) and SW created using different toolchains.
• Helping colleagues to design and implement tools to extract and analyze low-level information from vehicles to better understand their functioning.
• Identify and exploit vulnerabilities in car communication technologies (in-car and out of the car).
• Identify and exploit vulnerabilities in particular car devices (heads-up displays, tyre-pressure warnings, parking assistance, etc.) as well as within car infotainment (Android Auto, Apple CarPlay).
• Exploit potential problems and attacks in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications (V2X).
• Identify and exploit privacy issues with data sent and processed off-car and/or collaborative applications related to the auto market.
• Create and test prototype solutions to increase the security level of vehicle systems and communications.
• Keeping up-to-date a deep understanding of the current vehicle ecosystem to find potential problems with security and privacy.


What we expect

Required experience / knowledge / skills
• Bachelor or equivalent work experience in Electronics, Industrial Engineering, or Telecommunications.
• Excellent knowledge of embedded vehicle HW, SW and networks: CAN bus, FlexRay, Auto Ethernet.
• Knowledge of electronics, electronic design and programming microcontrollers.
• Reverse-engineering embedded HW.
• Reverse-engineering SW, regular and obfuscated, for different platforms: x86 and ARM mainly.
• Analyzing infotainment systems (QNX), Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
• Experience with pen-testing Linux and Android.
• Hands-on experience with SDR and protocol analysis.
• Interest in learning about out-of-vehicle communication: V2V, V2I, 4G/5G, as well as ADAS and other driver assistance technologies (parking assistance, etc.)
• A make-do, problem-solving attitude.
